Wood chip mulch for beds, trees and paths

The branches from your own yard, chipped and spread under the trees, on the beds and on the paths. The soil keeps its moisture, weeds stop, and the branches don't need hauling away.

When

March–May, September–November

How often

Once a year, with topping up

One visit

Two hours to a day

How it's done

The area is weeded first, roots and all. Chips are spread five to eight centimeters deep on moist soil, kept clear of the stems. For a path, the topsoil is removed, landscape fabric goes down with ten centimeters of chips, and the edge is held by a border. If the yard's branches aren't enough, bark makes up the rest.

When we say no

We don't put chips from walnut or diseased trees on the beds. Those we haul away.

Good to know

Chips rot and turn into soil in two or three years. That's why beds and paths get a fresh layer every year or every other year.
