Services / Shaping
Shrub and hedge shaping
Trimming hedges, thuja, boxwood and ornamental shrubs to a straight line and even height. The cuttings are collected and hauled away.
When
May–June, August–September
How often
Twice a year
One visit
Two hours to a day
How it's done
A hedge is cut slightly narrower at the top than at the bottom so light reaches the lower branches. Otherwise it goes bare at the bottom. The first trim is after the birds have left their nests, the second toward the end of summer so it has time to heal before winter.
When we say no
We don't cut a hedge with a nest in it. We wait two or three weeks.
Good to know
Thuja doesn't grow new shoots from bare wood. If it's cut back too far, the hole stays forever.
