Lawn aeration, scarifying and fertilizing
Restoring a lawn that has turned yellow, gone mossy or sits as a dense thatch. Scarifying, aeration, fertilizing and overseeding of bare spots.
When
March–April, September–October
How often
Once or twice a year
One visit
Half a day to a day
How it's done
The scarifier cuts out the dead grass and moss that keep water from reaching the roots. The aerator punches holes where the soil is compacted. Then comes a seasonal fertilizer: more nitrogen in spring for growth, potassium in autumn for winter.
When we say no
We don't scarify in the summer heat. The lawn can't recover and the patches stay until autumn.
Good to know
For the first two weeks after scarifying, the lawn looks worse than before. That's how it should be.
